The government orders $3 per ton in crease in price of steel. 3,000 flood workers are trying to save the Missouri banks at Kansas City . . . Tryon baseball team defeated Clearwater Wednesday 9-0. Bat tery for Tryon, Ward and Phillips and Ramsey. Edwards hit a home run and two singles for Tryon. The team plays again Saturday at Harmon Field .... Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays are the days traders and bargain hunters looking for rare things visit the Exchange Shop operated for the benefit of St. Luke’s Hospital. TURNER AT ROTARY Eugene Turner, for nearly 3D years a resident of China where he was a Y.M.C.A. secretary, and later did the same work in south ern Asia during World War II, will be the chief speaker at the Tryon Rotary Club Friday at 1 p. m. at Oak Hall. Before the Communists took over China he was a member of the Rotary club in that Country. Trvon Seniors At Capital The Tryon High School seniors arrived Monday night at 7:30 in Washington, D. C., for their week’s outing. They were unable to con tact their home by telegraph on account of the strike. They are located at Potomac Park Motor Court, East Potomac Park, Wash ington 6, D. C. Telephone 9882. Miss Baldwin reports that Her bert Lineberger, Congressman Woodrow Jones’ secretary gave them passes to the capitol where they can see the House and Senate and visit other important centers. LIONS HEAR GRIFFITH The Lions Club had a safety program Tuesday night a+ Oak Hall with Harold C. Griffith as the chief speaker. Eugene Jones had charge of the program. The importance of all phases of safe tv measures was stressed. Presi dent Clvde Tharpe gave a sons: that told of the happiness in singinv at 40 miles per hour and n* gettino- “Nearer My God To Thee” at 70 miles ner hour. The attendance chairman report ed that 10 members of the club would have perfect attendance record for the year at the next meeting. Guests included Hugh Jack a"d Paul Cantrell.
